I’m a lucky lass. DH came home from town with a new laptop for me - an Asus like my current one but with a lot more “oomph” and far more bells and whistles. It’s the Z53E MB Ver F3E and it has extra RAM. Naturally, I’m delighted.
We opened the box and were dismayed to find Norton Security 2008 discs and when we opened the computer, we find it has been installed but never run. The splash screen for Norton asks me to start its installation. An avast! user for many years, I would like to cleanly uninstall Norton to make way for Avast! However, I remember, (vaguely - it was a LONG time ago now) it was difficult to uninstall Norton 2001 and 2002 and I wonder which would be the best method to remove it.
Can I simply open Control Panel and remove it there? (It has never run - so hopefully it won’t have its claws too deeply in the system.)
Or is there a better way?
Many thanks in advance for your much appreciated advice.
Thank you FeRRaRi. Can I grab this on another computer, send it to a portable drive and run it on the new one from there? Call me paranoid but I really don’t want to go online without Avast!
I would run the normal add remove programs first and reboot. Not apply the belt and braces approach and use the removal tool feRRaRi gave the link for to ensure all traces are gone.
Thank you both very much. I have to go to work now but will do as you suggest and post back tonight to let you know how it goes.
Your help is so appreciated ;D
I feel doubly lucky today. Not only do I have a new laptop but I also have the benefit of the knowledge of the friendly, helpful people on this forum. I think I’d be lost without my daily learning curve on Avast! fora! You’ve all taught me SO much!

Squawk and she’s gone (to work. Concentration could be a problem today…lol)
