when will the 4.7 be available for testing?
The BETA version is already available for testing
See here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=20399.0
since I don’t see a link to download it, I assume it’s a closed beta test?
No, just use this link: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/aswbeta.exe
Info here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=20399.msg170915#msg170915
thanks , is the pro version available ?
Yeah, the beta is for Home and for Pro version.
But beta requires that you first have avast installed and only in on-line computers you’ll get the beta packages.
So, you need the Trial version at least to see the beta of the Pro features.
Got a question. I put the beta link under bookmarks in firefox. For example when avast! 4.8 or 5.0 beta comes out will it still be the same link?
Betas are distributed by update using the ashbeta.exe program.
There is no link for download. Just a link to where you can download the ashbeta.exe program, not the program itself.
Betas do not have a setupbeta.exe file.
So then say the 5.0 beta was released with this same link I could get it?
Probably not … but maybe.
Probably… they could change things in the future. Look, it’s not the link but the program ashbeta.exe that will force you to download and install the beta. Justin, it’s not a link…
I’ve read in *Introducing * - beta version of upcoming avast update that
" WinXP+: the Standard Shield now implements a nice new feature, “do not scan system libraries” (by default on). This should dramatically decrease the number of files scanned during computer boot. For now, it only works with XP SP2 in the following language versions English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Czech. And the English version of Windows 2003 Server"
But the translation into French doesn’t match the english feature. In french it’s : “Analyser les libraires dynamiques au chargement ( Windows XP seulement)”
If it’s enabled, I understand that avast will scan dynamic libraries when the computer starts.
Am I wrong or ?
gtaillandier, there are 2 new options actually:
- Scan dynamic libraries on load (1st page of Standard Shield configuration)
- Do not scan system libraries (2nd page of Standard Shield configuration)
Both are enabled by default, but they are somehow opposite. Are you sure you are looking at the right page?
So a week has passed. Any release date tabled for the finalised 4.7 version yet?
Igor,
Thank you for your answer.
You’re right : there’s another option on the 2nd page of Standard Shield.
I will enable both options.
Sincerely.
