Better Antiviruses?

Avast is TERRIBLE >:( I just found out that avast DID NOT DETECT A VIRUS and DETECTED A FALSE POSITIVE and QUARINTINED A VIRUS I WAS MAKING!

You should put screenshots about what you faced? About the malware detections you should put it here under virus and worms category https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0

Did not detect what virus ? what false positive ? and quarantined a virus you’re making :o please explain.

I bet he doesn’t even know what a virus is.

D’oh!.. avast is of course the only AV that have false positives, and evryone else have 100% detection … yeeees ::slight_smile:

Hi you “with your avast unfriendly nick”,

Yes give us a VT link and we can comment on the FP and the non-detect in the virus and worms section.
If what you state in your posting is the position you hold than that is true for all av vendors, all anti-malware products and all website security services. I know that to be true through ten years of volunteer activity here and being active in website security research.
The solution that detects all has not come to this world yet, and with an ever-changing threat landscape (yes changing status and migrating from one second to the next) non-detects and false positives are likely to happen and probably are here to stay with us.
Please get real and take a better informed point-of-view.

Yep…I ask the same question! How do you know it was a virus or not? How do you know its a false positive?

Since everyday 22,5500000+ viruses come out…There is no such thing like perfect AV. ::slight_smile:

If you were making a virus then it was avast’s job to detect viruses and so it did I guess, that is not a false positive.

What’s the name of the virus you had on your pc that you claim avast did not detect?? Was it one of those adware or toolbar junk?

Hi True Ind,

There exists a so-called “grey” area to-day, where adware launchers hijack parked/expired domains or those “on hold/ in redemption” etc. that they then come to inject with their “goodies”-code 8) . They apparently work within the boundaries of the law and have strong legal departments that work for them. These “online vultures” are therefore untouchable and the normal av vendor and anti-malware application does not detect such “hijackers” while they do not condone such activities but must tolerate this borderline “adware” actions >:(

Pol I really appreciate your light over this issue.I wish we had a kudos system on this forum.

Cheers!
True Indian.

You’re seeing some of those gray areas now being exploited in the Customer Support area.
Both on-line and Phone services.
Misleading people into thinking they have a problem riddled computer and then charging them for fixing the snake oil they sold the victim.
Technically, they haven’t committed a crime they just convinced someone to hand over their money for not performing any real service.

Hi bob3169,

Also another form of so-called “legalized” abuse.
That what you are mentioning is often bordering on “scam and/or fraud”.
The situation also occurs, because we came to live in a “free for all” society,
where these practices are ill-controlled.
On the other hand the public as such is under constant total surveillance
and our user rights are being curtailed all the time.

I.m.h.o this is an off-balance situation,
which is now backfiring at us great time
and has grown completely out of hand.

Good we have this platform to educate our users about what happens in the “grey zone”.
