Beware!!

Because my laptop was running slow I backed everything up then got the local computer shop to reinstall Win10. I reinstalled Avast Premium but could not get it to take the activation code, which was still valid. After a couple of days of of installing and removing it I Googled “reinstall Avast Premier” and came up with “guruaid.uk.com/Avast/Tech-Support

Chatted online and gave remote control to them. He looked at the computer properties and really slagged off the local computer shop for not doing this or that and offered to tweak the computer. To reconfigure Windows would cost £149.99 with a years guarantee and access to a 24/7/365 helpline. I hummed & hawed but eventually agreed and the chap on the other end remotely played around with the settings, keeping me advised of what he was doing at the same time trying to sell me other 'extras. At the end he did a long scan using Windows Defender, uninstalled Avast and said that’s it! What about Avast? I said. The £149.99 was for re-configuring windows and setting up a comprehensive maintenance plan for the computer they said.

Now, what they did online was very professional but the “Avast/Tech-Support” description on the Google search result is a lie, a bit of bait to lure mugs like me into buying something I don’t need. And I still don’t have Avast!

So if you ever deal with Guruaid make sure you know exactly what you need and can talk tech speak with the guy on the other end.

Forum help here is free
