Big Problem with Ver 7

Hi,
Today I updated to the new version 7. After that I had problems with another software program (embroidery software).
Went and did a restore to an ealier version (hoping to get the Avast 6 back).
Now I can not uninstall Version 6.0.1367.0. When trying to uninstall I always get the message:

Error reading product data from “C:\ProgramFiles\AlwilSoftware\Avast5\setup\part\set-up_ais-557.vpx” Setup cannot continue.

When I go into Avast (Summary) it shows it’s unsecured. No matterwhere I click, either Start Program or Fix Now … nothing happens.
When I open the Help Center it shows in the very top bar “Avast! 7 Help”.
When I go into Maintenance, Update it shows that “Update Engine and Virus Definition” is UNKNOWN. In “Update Program” it shows the Current Version to be 6.0.1367.

I run Windows 7 Home on a 32Bit PC.

Is there any way to get out of this dilemma?
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Best regards,
Sigrid

Hi Sigrid and welcome to avast! Forum.

Avast is not friendly with Windows restore. Strange things will happen and the only thing that can make it work agaain is a clean reinstall:

Install from scratch:

Download and save to your desktop aswclear : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Download and save a fresh copy of Avast!. Be sure to have your lincense handy if running a paid version:

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Use aswclear in safe mode once for Avast! 7 and any other Avast! you may have had before. Reboot after each uninstall.

Reinstall fresh copy of Avast!

Hi Iroc9555,

Thank you for the welcome and the fast, quick and easy solution to our huge problem.
Guess what: IT WORKED GREAT and we’re happy campers now again.
Avast! 7 is up and running … and even the embroidery software where I had some issues with is in order!

We definitely will remain Avast! customers - with both, our paid version (on our main PC) and the free version (on our other compuers).

Again many, many thanks!
Have a great day, wherever in the world you are,
Sigrid

You are most welcome, and I am glad that Avast! is up and running.
