Bing has hijacked by browser. I’ve tried several remendies but nothing has help. Any ideas?
Can you give more details on this for anyone to be able to try and help:
e.g. - How has it been hijacked and by what browser, so information on the symptoms and actions, etc.
I don’t use bing, so I can’t personally help.
Bing has become my default browser even though I’ve selected Chrome in the settings. When I click on a link, Bing comes up. When in Chrome, if`` I select a New tab to the Right, the Bing search engine comes up. In my Google search on the problem, it seems to be very common among other users. Some call it Bing malware but Avast doesn’t detect it. I even hacked some register code recommend by someone, but it didn’t help. Some suggested it happened when I downloaded an app but I don’t know which one.
That I don’t believe would be considered ‘malware’ by Avast.
I don’t use Chrome or Bing either, my default browser it Firefox, and in that I can choose the default search engine. I would like to think that is the same in Chrome settings, though where is the issue.
A google search (I know) for Change default search engine in Chrome returns many hits - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Change+default+search+engine+in+Chrome
This is just one - https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95426?hl=en-GB&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
Set your default search engineOn your computer, open Chrome. At the top right, select More. Settings. Select Search engine. Next to 'Search engine used in the address bar', select the down arrow . Select a new default search engine.</blockquote>
I’ve seen Bing try to change browser settings and make Edge default browser.
Maybe another user of system allowed and gave permission for this change?
Next time I see this will snip the ask box and post it here.
How this might have happened could be explained below in attached png.
I encountered this on my Win 10 64-bit system and have always selected ‘Set later’ option. as that acceptance of of their solicitation may lead to unwanted changes to both my default browser and my default homepage, and this change could be system-wide through all accounts I have active on my system.
Possible another user accepted this option without your knowledge?
