BitDefender QuickScan - is it worth installing in Firefox?
Seems promising… I’ll test it…
Well… it scans the auto run applications, the memory and critical files.
Quick… but as my computer is clean, I can’t say anything about the detection rate (as it does not run all over the files in the disk).
runs on Chrome too
http://quickscan.bitdefender.com/ (you’ll just be prompted to add the appropriate extension or activeX depending with which browser you access the page)
My PC is also clean. I guess this BitDefender service is an unnecessary toy for my Avast, my Spywareterminator, my Trend Micro RUBotted, my Spywareblaster, my Net Studio USB FireWall, my MBAM Free, my DrWeb CureIt!, my Firefox with NoScript and RequestPolicy, and me.
Don’t install it. I tried it on a test machine and IMO it’s not worth it. Also removing it can be a PITA :-X even after using their removal tool.
Really… Isn’t it just a Firefox extension?
As George Yves tells us too much of these resident goodies installed can make your browser/comp slower. I go for the things I cannot do without: fx with NS and RP and WOT and the rest is done on the fly (only cost me that CPU when I need it) - avast resident, spywareblaster and SAS on demand,
pol
it’s not resident, it just runs an online scan on demand, so it doesn’t slow down anything. This said I still find it useless ;D >>> that’s just the latest trick BitDefender found to advertise their products.
I tried this long time back and I have to say, it is useless if you are having the resident shield of Avast switched on in your system
It might be useful for some unprotected PC’s
Anyway, BitDefender employees need to spent time on something - :-X
I’ve uninstalled it… For me, seems innocuous.
What is RP?
Request Policy, for defending against cross-site crap.

Been thinking more about adding this.
@Gargamel360: Thanks for the info. I actually use RequestPolicy, but I would have never figured that out without your help!
For what its worth, I have this same problem with VMware and BitDefender. I have tried all of the suggestions in this thread, but the only thing that works is to turn off the BitDefender firewall, which always works. The problem is obviously there. Hope to get some news soon
The suggestion in the readme file: “the application doesn’t work with VMWare virtual adapters. Workaround: disable the binding for these adapters from “Local Area Connection Properties”.” is entirely too vague to be of use i.e., what are “Local Area Connection Properties”?. The suggestion in the online FAQs seems to be about an unrelated problem.
