It seems my last post didn’t get to the forum, so I’ll try again here.
A few days ago I noticed that Avast was no longer on my computer even though I’ve been using it for several years. It was not listed in Programs in Control Panel. As far as I can tell it was no longer there so there was nothing to uninstall.
I downloaded and installed a new version of Avast. On reboot all I get is a black screen with a cursor. I had to do a system recovery by booting from a CD. I did this twice.
I would like to use Avast again. Is there a problem with this version and Windows Vista Home?
Welcome to the club, I had the same thing after clean 5.1.889 install and also after upgrade after boot scan, after 4 or 5 years using avast I’m back to OSS on most of my machines and some still with avast pro v 5.0.677 :-\
Thanks. Small consolation knowing I’m not the only one. Hope they can find a fix. I installed AVG but it is slow and I don’t like the features as much as Avast.
Did you do an install over the top of the existing avast version ?
If so what version was it that you had installed ?
What version of avast are you using free/pro/ais ?
It may be best/quicker to do a clean reinstall:
Download the latest version of avast, 5.1.889 (see ~~~ below for direct download links) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.x).
Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.x, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
