Black screen with cursor on boot. Problem with avast and aswrvrt.sys

Hi,

Since recently I haven’t been able to start my computer, neither in normal mode nor any safe mode. It always ends the same way; when booting it loads all drivers and hangs at aswrvrt.sys (avast) for a minute then opens an unresponsive black screen with a cursor. From Google I’ve learned that I’m not the only one who’ve faced this problem. I’ve also learned that I should use Farbar Recovery Scan Tool to get a logfile, which I’ve done. Now I would be very happy if someone could help me to fix my problem using the logfile attached (FRST.txt).

I’m really thankful for any help!

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix.

On completion try a normal boot

Thanks, but it didn’t quite work. Still booting to black screen with cursor, both in normal mode and safe mode, hanging on aswRvrt.sys. Attached is Fixlog.txt

Can you recall what happened prior to the boot failure ?

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix.

On completion try a normal boot

Same problem again. Boot to black screen with cursor, both on normal mode and safe mode, hangs on aswRvrt.sys. Attached is Fixlist.log.

Well, I can’t recall exactly, but a few things that happened: avast started not working properly, I couldn’t activate it, so it was deactivated a few times when I used the computer before this problem occured. And often when the computer went to sleep and I wanted to start the computer again it had shut down and said that the computer hadn’t shut down properly. Sometimes when I started it I got a blue screen saying something that I don’t recall exactly, but that if this was the first time I got it I should just restart the computer. Most times that worked.

Really appretiate your help essexboy. Will any of this affect my saved files?

OK next task before I disable Avast is to run a chkdsk

From the recovery console select command prompt and type the following :

chkdsk c: /r

Once completed try a reboot

Successful check without finding any problems. Still the same problem on boot, both in normal mode and safe mode, hanging on aswRvrt.sys.

OK this one will disable Avast

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press fix.

On completion try a normal boot

Same problem, both in normal mode and safe mode, but this time hanging on CLASSPNP.sys instead ??? Fixlog attached

Could you try a startup repair from the recovery console, that is our last option I am afraid
