Can anyone tell me how to stop the advert showing on the summary page?

It’s a FREE version then you need too BUY the Pro version of Avast
As has been said the Pro versions doesn’t have it, so that is one way.
But it is probably one of the most benign ads That I have seen in a free product, no pop-ups, no nag screens, it is just in that one location of the avastUI all other operational areas of the UI are ad free.
Get the Pro and help development 
Even without the Pro version this isn’t intrusive as you only see it if you use the summary.
When I open the avastUI I switch it to the Real-time shields, so don’t see it.
