How do I make it so that a user that I have blocked doesn’t still show up in the Latest discussions feed? Because that was the whole point of me setting up the block and it doesn’t seem to work.
There are two settings related to that
- Ignored "Suppress all posts, messages, notifications, personal messages, and chat direct messages from these users.
- Muted “Suppress all notifications, personal messages, and chat direct messages from these users.”
Whilst both would appear to be very much the same, which makes me wonder why they have two.
The latter only blocks direct communication. The first should suppress forum posts also. But it doesn’t seem to work like that because the user still shows up in the feeds for new topics etc.
Ideally I would only want the block to apply to the General subforum but I’ve asked about that before and received no response. So now I’m trying to block a user outright.
Whilst I agree that the meaning should be as you describe I’m not sure how the software would go about that.
Given that the forum software would have to do this ‘on the fly’ whilst you were viewing the topic with the posts and you not seeing the posts, yet others who were also viewing the topic could see the post.
There would also the possibility of someone quoting a post, would that be able to be removed, I don’t think it could.
If I go into a subforum the users’ posts are still there. When I click on a topic it’ll say ‘ignored content’. But the topics of a user you’ve blocked aren’t blocked. That’s a forum feature fail.
I think it may be too complex for a simple forum structure. That said why offer it if it doesn’t work as expected.
Not sure how it would work when going in through the Latest discussions feed unless that users post wast listed in the latest discussions list. Going in via a topic not created by the user should work.
I don’t really know how this would work if it were created by the blocked user content was the first post.
I will see if I can draw some attention to this.
