Blue ball icon not spinning

First, little background, am running XP/SP3, current 4.8.1335. Periodcally my icon ball stops spinning, but all the scanner functions are running. In the past this only occured once every three months or so, not a major problem. I use the repair feature in the add/remove control panel and fix it. But in the last few weeks it seems to be happening much more frequntely, like 3 or 4 times a week, and is becoming more of an annoyance.

Hi jimmy

Are you talking about the ( i ) ball?
OR
Are you talking about the b [/b]ball?

However!
In either case…
Neither the b[/b] or ( a ) are supposed to spin constantly.

The… ( i ) … Just every 3 weeks! - While the VRDB is being made.
The… ( a ) … When you do something! - Like… Open a Webpage, Start Up a Program, Open a File

Its really ok^^

Just like wat Hally said, Neither the i or a are supposed to spin constantly.^^

Umm…there is another thread which its topic is the same as this…unfortunately, i cant find it^^

At any rate, its fine^^

I guess I should have been more specific. When I say the (a) ball isn’t spinning, I meant it wasn’t spinning when it should. Like when I initiated an action that should have made it spin, i.e. active IE, or change from one web site to another.

Umm u should try seeing the on-access scanner if it is working^^

(double click the blue ball)

If it does, then it should be fine^^

How about this setting…

Right-click the avast icon in your task manager, click, “Program Settings.”

Then click the, “appearance” setting on the left.

What does the, “Animate the icon when scanning” function say? Checked or not?

Scythe944, the “animate the icon when scanning” box is checked. Also, all the scans are working, the three shields (Network, Standard and Web) are functing. Since the only problem seems to be the icon is not animated, should I even worry?

Hard to say. If the shields are running, it’s a good sign, but It should be “spinning” every once in a while.

If repairs don’t work (permanently), a full un-install / re-install may help.

Download the avast removal tool and follow the directions on this page: http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html

Into the providers settings (left click the icon, details button to expand), are there files being scanned by the providers?

For Tech: Yes, files are being scanned by the all the providers. For Scythe944: I perfer not to do a un-install/re-install unless absolutely necessary.

Not that worse then eh?
The not spinning ball continues to be a mystery anyhow…

Ok, I decided to uninstall/reinstall, and like this little blue ball of a world we live on, my little (a) ball is spinning again. Thank you; Hally, SLifeR, Scythe944 and Tech for your attempts to help, they were appreciated.

You’re welcome.

I don’t know why but I love when the blue ball spins… rsrsrsr

It is called reassurance, as you know it is working as it is scanning when it is rotating ;D
