Have used the steps in “If you cannot Boot the computer” from “Logs to assist in cleaning malware”
Have Sony Vaio running W7 on a teenagers laptop
Have used the OTLPEN.exe to create boot disk
Get the first pic attached
then before anything else the blue screen comes up (2nd pic)
restarted laptop & as soon as the ReaToGo comes up put in the usb stick with Far Bar recovery tool on it - now have check disk running…is this ok?

FarBar won’t even run - blue screen comes before able to get usb stick in & find the drive
Sounds very much like a hardware problem … Did you let chkdsk complete
yes, chkdsk completed still no joy - no get blue screen straight after ReaToGo comes up.
Is there any way to check the memory if you can’t get to it - like check disk if you boot into safe mode?
You could check in the BIOS
Change the SATA mode in BIOS to IDE mode
Thanks so much for the help - teen has decided that he will take it to the local computer shop as I am too far away to do anymore with it & he is impatient.
