Recently my friend got internet access again. I had him install PC Tools Firewall, CCleaner, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Firefox. We also uninstalled a bunch of programs but couldn’t uninstall an annoying free trial of Norton without the CD, so we manually deleted the Norton and Symantec folders. Now, but I don’t know if that;s what caused it, every time he tries to go online and do stuff, he gets a blue screen of death saying something about a driver. Please help.
Try the Norton removal tool http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

In this situation, I’ll uninstall PCTools firewall and avast, boot, install them again later…
Oh, after removing Norton

As you deleted Norton manually is adviced to use the Norton removal tool (Joe S link post above).

To see what caused the BSOD you can use the handy tool BlueScreenView (it doesn’t need any installation).
I think the BSOD is gone now, but I will still use the Norton removal tool.
After I uninstalling Norton the first time I Ran CCleaner it showed Norton had left tons of crap behind. I bought this HP PC last year and the only reason it had Norton was because there was No option for no AV. I think Norton and Mcaffee both suck. I dumped Mcaffee when I discovered Avast!

We still have the problem with his computer. After being online for only a bit, we get blue screen of death saying “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO” and there’s no time to read the rest. I’ve tried googling it but with no success. It seemed like there was a hotfix for it but it didn’t work so it must not have been it. I also tried uninstalling video card drivers and dvd drive drivers because he had had problems with his disk drive but it still happens.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO is a sign that a driver is causing a conflict and the computer has a hardware problem.

Try to use “BlueScreenView” (see post about with link).
It reads the minidump files and tell you what drive is causing the BSOD.
NETIO.SYS, tcpip.sys are the two drivers that are causing it. What now?
Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis. There is also C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information about the BSOD and the link for this thread.
Or upload it to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming
Besides Google also you can use:
MS knowledgebase: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1
Free memory tester (Run it overnight): http://www.memtest86.com/
XP error explanations: http://www.xptuneup.com/xptuneup_stopmessages.htm
BSODs: http://www.techmetica.com/howto/descriptions-and-fixes-of-blue-screen-of-death-bsod-crash-errors/
It seems “netio.sys” is a part of Windows Vista. Many BSOD’issues in google.
You can do what Tech suggested and try some suggestions like: link1 - link2 - link3
I tried a hotfix for the issue from Microsoft but it didn’t work. His internet works for online games but not when he opens the browser. It would be hard to send a file since his computer crashes not long after he goes online.
What browser is your friend using?
We tried Firefox and IE. It’s fine in safe mode. I also talked to my college professor who has a masters in computing and he said to load a restore point. He didn’t have any so we reset to factory settings but now we have the problem of getting the driver for his wireless router because he doesn’t have the CD.
Find out the make, model number, and possibly the serial number of his wireless router.
All of these can be researched on the Internet starting with the make and model number first.
It is possible that the driver may be available for download from the makers web site.
We restored to factory settings and it seems to be working fine now.
