Bluescreen of Death

I tried to install this new version of Avast 5 twice and received the Bluescreen Crash both times.

When? During the installation or after?
Do you have the corresponding minidump files (in C:\Windows\Minidump folder)? They may tell us what happened.

I got the same thing with Dell inspiron 1525 with blu-ray drive. Found out that avast 5 has seem issues with dell media direct. when I uninstalled said program and everything then ran fine.

I have same problem as Graig, blue screen just after logon on windows 7… Only one way it’s to start windows in safe mod and uninstall Avast 5…

Config : Windows 7 32bits (English version with local in Japanese), previously Avast 4.8 but removed with aswclear.exe.

Please help me !

And attached the dump (renamed in .txt) !

Please rename the file to something else (e.g. ZIP), not .txt (it gets transferred in text mode and corrupted).
Or, you can upload the dump file to

ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

I did both (but in .png because zip extension is not allowed) !

Please let me now

Same here. I don’t know if it was cause by avast! but I did not alter anything to my system except of changing antivirus from Kaspersky to avast! free AV.

I installed avast! free AV this morning with no issues then I open my laptop this afternoon to look around in the forum then suddenly after hitting the post button to my first post here in the forum about sandbox I suddenly got a blue screen.

If it is ok, I want also to send my dmp file for analysis but don’t know how to attach it.

Thanks in advance…

Note: I only experienced the blue screen once.

My computer restarts or displays a Critical Error message (Blue Screen)
How to submit a big file to ALWIL Software?

thanks… done…

irj: your bug was already fixed after 2hours when we released build 377
graig: will be fixed

Thanks both of you for uploading minidumps.

Same issue here. I have attached the mini dump.

Same thing happened to me this morning, BSOD while on internet. I’ve uploaded the minidump, named Aubsurmer. I’m sure it’s related to Avast since it doesn’T happen when i turn off all shields.

Same here on Vista Home Premium, crashes after the welvcome screen running 4.8 quite happily attached minidump in hope someone can solve problem

pk do I understand correctly? You say the bug is fixed? Thanks, Graig

Guys, for at least some of you (dahu, tobykim, …) the problem is related to a special driver called 000.fcl.
A brief search on Google suggests that this file is part of CyberLink DVD. Can you guys confirm that you have this software installed?

And if so, can you please send the 000.fcl file to me for further analysis?
(click the envelope icon below my picture to do that).

Normally, it would be located in the “C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD” folder.

Thanks much, and sorry for the troubles
Vlk

No need to be sorry about the troubles :P.

I don’T have that software installed and nothing named 000.fcl on my computer, so for me it’s probably something else.

Cyberlink installed and file sent hope it can be solved

tobykim, thanks for the file. We’ll be looking into it shortly. BTW can you confirm that the crash occured when you were doing something with PowerDVD?

Aubsurmer, you’re right, your crash is a different story. Unfortunately somewhat harder to debug as the dump file doesn’t contain many useful pointers. But we’re also working on it…

Thanks again
Vlk

Don’t worry, i’m not in a hurry ! If you need more infos, just ask me.

Hi vlk,

i am having same issue with BSOD, then forced restart on Vista AND can confirm this powerdvd file. It is picking it up on heuristic scan as a potential threat. Let me know how i can help.

Thanks

ps- i was not using powerdvd at the time of the crash
