bmp to JPEG Conversion

Anyone have a recommendation for a good, safe, reliable, trusty and FREE utility for converting bmp format Pics to JPEGs?

IrfanView is one of many free programs.
I’ve used this program for many years.

Paint.NET

Doesn’t Paint.net require that you have dot net framework installed ?

Yes, what’s the problem? A lot of ‘little’ tools use dot net framework also…

Because a) dot net framework doesn’t come pre installed b) is huge, c) not to mention it is just another security update you have to keep on top of to eliminate vulnerabilities in .net framework.

I have one program that needs it and if my Drive Imaging tool wasn’t a high priority I wouldn’t have .net on my system at all.

It’s not a problem for most users David… you need to acknowledge we’re not that trouble about download sizes…

So, what’s wrong if a software acknowledge and correct vulnerabilities… will we stop use any software with vulnerabilities? ???

Ok, you’re choice… no problems.

I just saw on C/Net download.com that Paint.NET requires Windows XP and above. So, Paint.NET is off the table for me.

Thanks, Bob! Wooooo! I see this irfanview has a major beef with XnViewer or something like that regarding stealing their ideas. Have YOU tried that XnViewer?

bmp question:
Aren’t all bmp Files created equal?
Let me elaborate. With VERY negligible knowledge of HTML … Okay, like .001% knowledge of HTML, but with a Tip on the Opera Websites Forum, I attempted to modify the Header in my Blog. With said Tip, I was supposed to use an Image as the Background in my Header. I created a Header in Microsoft Word. Then I pasted it into a Windows Paint File. I was then theoretically, if I understood the brief instructions correctly, supposed to be able to use that Windows Paint Pic as my Header. Well, the experiment didn’t work in the slightest bit.

Not only that, but I found out that for some reason, I cannot insert THAT particular Windows Paint Pic into a Blog Post. I can insert OTHER Windows Paint Pics into the Blog Post seemingly at will. The only thing that I can gather is that almost all of the Windows Paint Pics that CAN be inserted into the Blog Post … were created / drawn as Paint Pics. The Header Pic was obviously NOT created in Windows Paint, but rather is comprised of a Microsoft Word creation merely being pasted into a Paint File.

To add to the mystery … Okay, my Avatar here on the avast! Forums … the little Computer is drawn in Windows Paint, but the “Chim” part of it is WordArt pasted into the Windows Paint file from MS Word. So, it is a hybrid — Windows Paint AND MS Word. Yet, this can also be inserted into that Blog Post.

Basically, the situation is this:
(1) Windows Paint Pics created / drawn 100% in Paint, CAN be inserted into the Blog Post.
(2) Windows Paint Hybrid Pics comprised of part Paint creation and part MS Word creation, CAN be inserted into the Blog Post.
(3) Windows Paint Pic comprised 100% of a pasted MS Word creation, CANNOT be inserted into the Blog Post.

WHY? Why does # 3 NOT cooperate? Aren’t they ALL bmp Files / Pics?

This is why I wanted to convert that bmp Pic into a JPEG, to see if MAYBE it could be inserted into the Blog Post.

I just downloaded it, Bob. Tried it out and that did the trick.
Yep, converted bmp Pics to JPEG and PNG.
Thanks again, Bob!

Your welcome.

Two Questions:
(1) There in the Effects function, they mention some Filters. One is even an Adobe Filter. And I think Filter Factory and Filters Unlimited as Plugins. Will these be installed as Plugins when you click on those selections? Or do they have to separately be downloaded?

(2) What exactly is the irfanView Logo? I see it as a Roadkill Flattened Out Red Cat with a Lone Ranger Mask. ;D

One answer ;D
You can get the plugins at:

enjoy

Muchas Gracias, Roberto!
Uhhh, that is to say, Thanks a lot, Bob!
Bookmarked it. You wouldn’t happen to know how many MegaBytes the whole Enchilada would be, would you? It sounds like it’d be one of those downloads best done at my neighbor’s High Speed Connection.
