Bogus Certificate at Gmail Login

Seems lately, with no regularity, with attempting to logon to Gmail the attached pops up… :frowning: Obviously I don’t accepted it but it is of concern…

I’ve using Firefox 2.0.0.17 and when this happens Google Search is gone too… I can sometimes get around it by shutting down and rebooting or I can keyin “https://mail.google.com” and get into Gmail. Sometimes even doing that brings forth this alert but saying no to it and clicking on “Go” on the toolbar works…

Did a full scan this morning with Spybot S&D and SUPERAntiSpyware and AV scan with Avast!.. I’m using a (pre-Symantec) version of Sygate which has been working perfectly for my OS.

Has anyone else had a similar problem lately? Is there anything else I can try to eliminate this issue ???

I’ve never received this and use gmail on many different browsers. ???

Sounds like something/someone has changed your DNS settings. Check your DNS settings. Make sure they are set to obtain automatically or manually entered to your ISPs servers.

I was hoping that you’d jump in here since I’ve noticed that you’re a Gmail user… For the record this happens on both Firefox (my browser of choice) and IE (my least favorite)…

@mac
As Johnny Five in the movie Short Circuit would say: “Need Input”! :wink: I’m on dialup and don’t know that I can do what you’ve indicated…

:slight_smile: Hi ProgrammerGuy :

2 People reported a similar “experience” as you on the PCWorld Forums
( http://forums.pcworld.com/message/150873#150873 ) and a “Search” on
Google revealed no current “solution” to this . Have seen similar Requests for
Help on several Sites, but without any Replies .

Im assuming Win XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305553

since you are on dialup make sure its set to obtain automatically

@Spiritsongs:
Thanks, I’ll check that out… That Google hasn’t resolved or replied is not surprising since they are a little deficient in that area… :slight_smile:

@mac:
Wrong… I’m on “Me”…but I’ll follow the link just for grins and giggles! Who knows, I might be able to glean something from it…

Well I have not used a 9x/ME Machine in so long I wouldn’t know how to check the setting myself :-[

ProgrammerGuy,

are you on AOL (or an AOL owned) dialup service?

Some posts I have read suggest that only users of AOL services are experiencing this problem.

@alanrf
Thanks for the input…

Yep, I am using an AOL-owned dial-up service… Could you send me a link to one of these posts? :slight_smile:

So far, the work-around I mentioned in my initial post seems to be working…

I spoke too soon as now the work-around is not working… I do know that when that happens I can shutdown and reboot…

Some posts I have read suggest that only users of AOL services are experiencing this problem.
This might be a good time to switch to a cheaper but better service like NetZero ???

(They still offer 10 hrs. per month free of charge.)

Thanks Bob I’ll take that into consideration if this keeps up much longer…

One thing for sure though, I’d never go with their 10-hour freebie since the ads take up most of the browser screen…been there, done that on my daughters computer… :(

It appears that this is a problem that AOL needs to fix. However (please do not be too put off by the look of the page) there is a discussion and a way to avoid the problem for now discussed by “Josh” at the top of the page here:

Thanks for the input Alan… :wink:

Ironically the person who wrote the initial post is using the same AOL-owned service that I am…

I will have to look into using ‘opendns’ to resolve the problem on a more permanent basis.

It appears that AOL has resolved this issue…

I’ve had no problems for the past three days so I’m keeping my fingers crossed…

It was merely a case of being patient…which is not really my nature :(

Anybody that still uses AOL in this day and age needs to be a patient:
