Boot hangs at aswRvrt.sys

Hello kind strangers

I have read the other threads regarding this issue, but my situation is dissimilar so I started a new thread.

The drive that hangs is removed from the laptop (Dell) and it is now mounted in an external USB case. I can boot until crash and access the drive from Win7 on my computer (ASUS).

I downloaded and ran awsClear, setting the path to the Avast-folder on the external drive. This removed the Avast-folder on the external drive, but it also disabled Avast on my ASUS (re-installed now and running fine)

When I attempt to boot from the external HD it still hangs at aswRvrt.sys - - Any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated!!!

So the bad drive is now in a USB caddy ? To gain any data from it I would need it to be run as the main drive, so it would need to be re-installed in the laptop. What is the OS on the drive ?

Hi Essexboy,

I was hoping you would show up… I’ve studied your other threads

Yes, unfortunately the Dell laptop has a cracked/busted display and is now running on an external HDMI-screen. The external display drivers for win7 does not load until well into the boot, so I had to remove the drive to the USB caddy to find out what was happening.

I am able to boot from the drive up until BSOD as well as access the drive from my local Win 7 installation.

OS is Windows 7 Professional.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I can use FRST to look at the system as long as it is the boot drive

Does the option repair my computer appear on the safe mode menu ?

If not you will need the recovery console on a USB. Is this 32 or 64bit
