Boot hangs on aswrvrt.sys

Hi all,

I understand this is an Avast file (possibly scans for virus via the USB) and now is corrupt. I was using a new version of Vivaldi to download a PDF file and the dialog box wouldn’t open. After checking Task Manager, 1000 instances of Vivaldi had opened and the PC was grinding to a halt. After hard reset, it now hangs on boot. I am using win 7 64bt. My BIOS boot options don’t include a USB, but do include a CD and i have access to a CD burner.

I created a windows boot disk and tried restoring to an earlier time. This did not fix the issue.

I also thought another way may be to boot to command prompt using RUFUS or similar and delete the file but further research has indicated that Avast may have a tool to fix the issue. I have followed the “If you cannot Boot the computer” http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 to get here.

Any help sincerely appreciated.

Does anyone have the instructions for the recovery console download for 64bit machines?

found the instructions. Not sure if they helped.
Seems to have fixed itself.
thanks everyone.
\i might get a new laptop!
