So I was working with the not quite latest update to the free version of Avast, when after a quick scan it offered to do a boot scan. I figured why not, it had been a while since I had restarted my machine anyway. Short version: Upon restarting I can see my lights come on and hear the beep associated with startup. My screen remains blank and is no longer transmitting anything at all. I have switched HDMI cables, switched monitors, inserted a boot disc… Everything short of kicking it. This computer is fairly new and has never even crashed before this. I have restarted it many times without issue, the only variable that has changed is the Avast boot scan.

OK lets go in outside of windows. We will need to create a CD and additionally use a USB drive
Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing
[*]Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
[]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.
[*]Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
[*]Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created. Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[]Insert the USB with FRST64
[]Locate the flash drive with FRST64 and double click
[]The tool will start to run.
[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
I attempted this anyway just to be sure, but like I said, I’m not getting any video output at all. Not even the blinky cursor associated with the black screen issue. It’s as if all video function from my computer is disabled.
