I am unable to do anything about a virus that the boot scan detected. I ran it after my daily Avast scan detected a virus, moved it to chest, then suggested I run a boot scan. The next day no virus was detected by the Avast quick scan, but I ran a boot scan again anyway and sure enough, that same virus was detected about which I could do nothing about! I tried System Restore which didn’t work, although it did remove my recently installed programs and restored recently deleted files, so now I have to undo the restore.
How do I get rid of this virus? Scan history shows a boot scan virus was detected, and the detailed report shows it was moved to chest, however, the virus chest itself does not show the virus was moved into it. A full system scan run immediately after the boot scan shows no virus. Neither do Malwarebytes nor Super Antispyware full scans show anything.
Also, I seem to be getting infected with a different virus every 10 days now since February 9 when before that I rarely got infected. :-[
System Restore didn’t complete successfully. This is usually the case when my computer has been infected even when it is no longer a threat, but I still try it just in case.
The virus name is Win32:GenMaliciousA-ABQ(Trj) The file is TaskSchedulerEX.exe
Avast Quick Scan on 3/1/15 moved it to chest. Path is C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Acer\clear.fi\MVP\TaskSchedulerEX.exe
Boot scan on 3/1/15 shows this: C:\OEM\Preload\Autorun\APP\Acer Clear.fi\PCinema\Data1.7z]>TaskSchedulerEX.exe (it’s an up and down straight line before the > but my keyboard doesn’t have that symbol)
Detailed report says above file was deleted. Boot scan also showed another file in a Volume folder, POP01]]Z0OX00C313.SWN (same virus) which was moved to chest, and it is in the chest.
Boot scan on 3/2/15 shows the same file as above: C:\OEM\Preload etc. and that it was successfully moved to chest, but it is not in the virus chest.
The only choice I had on both boot scans was to ignore the file, so why the detailed report shows that it was first deleted on 3/1 and then moved to chest on 3/2 when it isn’t in there, I don’t know.
I have not run another boot scan since, but it is probably still there, though no other scans show anything.
So this is nothing to worry about? What if a boot scan continues to show this file/virus?
Do you happen to know why the boot scan won’t let me do anything but ignore it, and why the detailed report in Scan History shows the file deleted/moved when it has not been?
Also, I have two versions of Java installed, 7 and 8. Both have received recent updates. The Java website said that Java 7 was secure and didn’t indicate that I should uninstall it.
I really appreciate your help. I don’t know why these viruses have been showing up every 10 days now when I rarely got one before.
