Avast is pretty new on my system (Windows XP) and I’ve had some trouble in getting a Boot Scan done. It took me about three tries to actually get it running, because the first couple of times it gave an Error 192 (NtWaitFormultipleobjects; STATUS_USER_APC).
For some reason it started running on the third try, then later stopped for Keyboard Error. I did find your fix for the Keyboard Error and was able to complete the Boot Scan after that - nothing found.
Could you please tell me what caused the 192 error? Also, will I lose the ability to Boot Scan when I update Avast again?
Did you have any other antivirus on the computer before Avast? & how did you remove it?. What type of computer is it? a laptop or Mainframe? processor type? Ram etc.
Prior to Avast, I had Webroot Spysweeper and Firewall. When the subscription expired, toward the end of October, someone recommended Avast and that’s what I installed. Here’s the history since then:
(This is Windows XP SP 2 with all available updates, on a Dell Dimension E510 desktop computer, Pentium 4 processor 3.2Gz, 2 GB RAM.)
As I recall, I used a Webroot uninstall program to remove Spysweeper
-Spybot Search & Destroy is installed but only used for weekly scans
Norton Corporate Edition was installed prior to Webroot and used a Norton tool for removal.
Using Avast with Windows XP built-in firewall. On Saturday 12/13 began to notice problem with computer not connecting to internet and Internet Explorer hanging up. I switched to Comodo at that time, including their firewall. Scans (Comodo, Avast, Spybot) did not pick up problem.
Monday night the Internet Explorer went to a strange site. Problem repeated on Firefox. At the recommendation of someone, I downloaded MalwareBytes and multiple problems were detected and removed. Computer still appears damaged in that IE has trouble with hanging.
Reinstalled Avast and kept Comodo Firewall and Defense+ Security (not anti-virus). Comodo was uninstalled from “All Programs” menu; later installed the two components from fresh download.
Avast boot scan is clean, Malwarebytes Full Scan from Safe Mode is clean
I do still need to repair whatever has been damaged that causes the hangs.
