Boot scan warning

Hi
I got the attached Boot Scan warning all regarding to Nir Software , the developer claims that this is a false alarm notice.
Please advice /acknowledge
Thanks

Well, it’s reported as a PUP - Potentially Unwanted Program (i.e. not as an ordinary malware)… which means the PUPs option was enabled for that scan.
So, it’s up to you to decide whether you have these programs intentionally installed/stored on your disk or not… and ignore the warning if you do.

Thanks for you reply. What are the risks from allowing this program to be on my machine?

None i guess if you are the only user...

Antivirus companies cause a big headache to small developers.

Most people need these tools to recover their own lost password.
These password tools, like many other utilities out there, can also be used by hackers for bad purposes.

I must say that some Antivirus companies are a little more gentle, and classify these tools as “Security Threat” or “Riskware” which is much better than classifying them as Virus or Trojan

What Pondus said. Here is NirSofts site. It’s not too big a stretch to work out that if someone else installed one of the password recovery tools or similar, that would be a threat. Which is probably why Avast has reported the risk.

If you installed them deliberately yourself, as indicated, no threat at all.

I don’t think “Security threat” is correct.
Potentially unwanted program is the correct one; if you installed the program yourself, it’s OK, you’re safe. However, if the program appeared on your computer without your knowledge, it may point to an infection (a malicious tool, or another user, abusing it for breaking your passwords, for example).
