Boot Scan with USB Keyboard

Hi. I’ve just brought a neighbour’s system (Dell Inspiron) up-to-date and loaded Avast! Home, then run a boot scan. The system was infected so asked to run a boot time scan.

A virus was found but we could select an option because his keyboard is USB and so doesn’t work until you get to Windows XP.

Can someone please suggest what we should do to get over this? Thanks

Either use a ps2 keyboard or a usb to ps2 converter.

The problem is getting into the BIOS to enable usb devices so the keyboard will be recognised before boot, the chicken and egg situation is here if this option hasn’t been enabled you might not be able to change it in the BIOS if your usb keyboard isn’t recognised.
