I bought a new laptop with windows vista and put avast on it. Everything works fine except that it will not let me run a boot scan. I literally can’t click the button. Any ideas on what’s going on?
You miss the one piece of important information, is this a 64bit version of Vista ?
If so the boot-time scan isn’t currently available in 64bit OSes.

You are for now limited to running a safe mode scan as they are still trying to work on how they can achieve this on 64bit OS. Their main priority for the moment is avast 5.0, once that is released (estimated October). When this is done and dusted then they can get back on to this, it will possibly be in version 5.1.
