I have the home edition and i thought i was suppose to be able to have access to the Schedule bootscan time scan option but it doesn’t come up as enabled (its there just grayed out, unclickable) on my simple user interface menu. i want to run a boot scan, help. :-
BTW i was told that this program does automatically run boot scans as part of the protection. why isn’t mine? ???
The boot-time scanner is available on Windows NT/2000/XP only. Is it your case?
And also not under Windows XP x64, to be precise…
i have windows 98SE . where a boot scan would probably be most helpful. i would have thought anyway. is there any chance that you will be adding a boot scan to a future edition?

With win98 you could boot into safe mode where on a very limited program set is run and start avast and run a scan from within safe mode.
Windows no longer suports win98 so I can’t see anyone developing something for an obsolute OS, it isn’t comercially viable. My thoughts, not necessarily that of Alwil Software.
I’m afraid that won’t happen. Win9x platform doesn’t support the underlying technology, so the only way to perform a boot-time scan there would be to start a 16bit mode scanner from autoexec.bat.
I don’t think we are going to do that - that would mean “downgrading” our engine, moving from 32bits to 16… it’s really not worth the effort.
There is an alternitive for the bootscan in win98(se).
You can use the free Avast for DOS version and make it work with a bootable floppy/cd.
