So I scheduled a boot-time scan after struggling with a virus that hid all my user files.
The problem is, the boot-time scan won’t run, just gives me a black screen at the time of startup, and I can’t get around it.
I even tried to F8 during startup hoping to get the windows options to skip it, or run windows in Safe mode, but nothing really happens.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Thing is though, as I explained, I can’t get into Windows. Therefore, I can’t retrieve the requested logs or run the suggested applications (e.g. MBAM).
Reading information about the particular virus that started all of this here: http://www.myantispyware.com/2012/01/02/how-to-remove-system-check-virus/
I’ve found some steps to deal with it, but I just need to get back into Windows to do any of it. And to do that, I need to somehow circumvent or bypass the Avast Boot-time scan.
Perhaps if I boot from some linux distro running on a usb thumb drive I could modify any boot file that has the Avast boot-time scan flag? Wish I knew which file has this though.
