I hope someone could help me on this problem, I’m using a Free Avast Antivirus with program version 2014.9.0.2021 which is I think the latest one.
I have a problem with its boot-time scan, I’m not really sure what’s the problem because it seems to be functioning normally.
Normally, in sense that I can change settings and do what ever I want and then start it. It will do the normal boot process and then get into the Avast boot-time.
My problem now: It will scan everything in my local drives, but it won’t scan my removable devices and external HDD. I already add it on the settings, I even added everything to be sure but it will only scan my local drives and then finish the scanning without even looking into other drives or folders or devices that I set to be scanned. I also tried not to include the local drives and only scan my external HDD on boot-time but it the only message appears for example
Scanning G:…
…
Number of files scanned:0
Total Size of the files: 0
Infected Files:0
After the indicator that it’s about to scan the drive “Scanning G:…” it would automatically finish and show the results. Which shows that there are nothing scanned on that drive basing on the numbers that were showing.
Sorry if I’m not very good in explaining things but I hope someone could help me because I really love boot-time scanning ever since.
It is the latest version if you do not count the beta.
What you see is perfectly normal.
avast bootscan runs before the drivers for the removable device(s)/drive(s) are loaded.
That means avast “can’t see” them and therefor can’t scan them.
On the previous versions of Avast, I was able to do boot-time including all the removable devices and external storage that I have and scan it without problems. I really do think there is something different on this new version, may be settings or the software itself.
Note: I already included all the devices and files that I wanted to be scanned upon boot-time under the “Scan Areas” of boot-time settings.
Please guys, i need your help. I don’t want to change antivirus.
You do a boot time scan to access files that normally can’t be accessed because they are used by the system.
USB devices can be scanned once your system has booted and the drivers for those devices are loaded.
They can’t be scanned prior to that time.
I don’t know what help your looking for ? There isn’t any problem.
I got your point same as Ed, that removable devices can’t be read if drivers where still not loaded.
What I’m confused about is, on the older versions of avast I’m able to do boot-time on removable devices and now I can’t.
So I need help to fix this one since I’m still assuming that I could do boot-time on removable devices like what I always do before on my external HDD.
What do you think of this issue since I could do it before and now I can’t? Have you tried to boot-time some removable devices before on the older versions?
