Boot-Time Scan

sorry if this question has already been asked but i couldnt find any information on it =(

i’m running avast 4 (latest Build) on my windows xp 64 bit operating system, for ages i used to be able to schedule boot-time scans, but now however, i cant, the option to do so is just grayed out, i’ve tried re-installing without success.

i’m really not sure why i cant do this anymore but would greatly appreciate any help =)

also, not sure if its related or not, but the system hangs when i turn it off, everything will close down completely fine, no errors or anything, goes through logging off & saving settings on the close down screen (with the xp logo and everything) but when it says shutting down… it just doesnt XD

just thought it might help to know that as it started happening at around the same time =)

thanks for any help given ^.^

The boot-time scanner doesn’t work under 64-bit (sorry for this).

Well, you’re saying that ‘…for ages i used to be able to schedule boot-time scans’ - but frankly, I doubt that, the boot-time scanner has really never worked under 64-bit (we’re working on porting it to 64-bit but it will take some time yet).

Cheers
Vlk

thanks for the amazingly quick reply btw =D

well the choice had been there for ages, the option wasnt greyed out, but i definately did do a scan under 64 bit =s

but hey, if that’s the case i’m glad that it means there’s nothing wrong ^.^

also, i know its an avast forum but i dont suppose you have any tips on the system hanging problem? XD

no probs if not and thanks again for helping me out =)

Your saying your system (sometimes) freezes hard? Like everything freezes and you have to do a hardware reset? Can you move the mouse cursor on the screen, at least?

There are ways to analyse such a problem (usually, it is caused by a bogus device driver).

Thanks
Vlk

well the system has froze a couple times, able to move mouse on taskbar, but nothing works, system is just froze, but what has happened everytime for about a week now, is tht when i click shut-down, everything goes as normal, perfect in fact, but it just doesnt, all programs close as normal, the exit screen (win xp logo and the text ‘logging off’ then ‘saving settings’ etc.) appears, but it just doesnt, its as if its just taking forever to shut down (stays saying ‘windows is shutting down’) and just doesnt do anything, left it for a good 30 mins before

thanks for your help on this =)

hello,

i just upgrade to 64 bit and i see that i am unable to schedule boot-time scans (win7 64 bit)…
my question is: can i give the order to schedule boot-time scan in a DOS mode? if so, how do i do that?
if not, what can i do? i have problems. i install the Avast 4 days after connecting to the internet and when i browse i have a lot of windows “jumping”. regular scan don’t find any error at all.

many thanks,
Assi

No bootscan in 64bit...maybe in avast v5.1 later this year you can use safe mode

boot scan does not give better detection, only better removal
quote:
Avast Antivirus offers a “boot time” virus scan of your PC. This allows the antivirus engine to scan all of the files on your hard drive before any other programs load - useful in cases where you have an infection which cannot be cleaned because the “file is in use”

Check your computer for Malware with

MBAM http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
update and run quick scan, click the button “remove selected” to quarantine anything found, and restart

SAS http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

Are cookies really spyware and are they dangerous?
http://www.superantispyware.com/supportfaqdisplay.html?faq=26

come back and tell us if it worked

If anything is found other than cookies you may post the scan logs here

Do the scannings work in Safe Mode? ???
You can check avast at logon time (a thread of the beta forum).

hello,

First, thanks for the quick respond. i install yesterday the MBAM from the first link. i had More then 300 infested objects. after removing them i have no more problems. (it has been 24 hours with no errors).
The Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware works very good!

But, why didn’t the Avast find all the infected objects?
I worked with the avast for a few years and never had any problem before. i know that i “received” these viruses during the 4 days that i surf the net without the avast protection and i know that in the future i wont “received” any more viruses (thanks to the Avast protection) but as i ask before, why didn’t the Avast find all the infected objects?

One more time - thank you very much

Assi

No security program have 100% detection, if they did the virus problem would be gone Malwarebytes PRO is a perfect companion to avast A onetime fee for a lifetime license then you can activate the protection module www.malwarebytes.org

Funny, I’m getting the same results, could before, now I can’t. When can we expect to see this as a possibility (to boot-scan in 64bits?

Greetings from Texas USofA,

I have just upgraded to the Win7 Home Premium 64bit from Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit, I feel uncomfortable and NAKED without the Boot-Time scan. I know it is not available for 64 bit systems, when may we expect this? I also know it is later this year, March? July? December? HELP! us so we can be more comfortable with Avast5.

One other question, my version of Win7 64 will run 32bit software, could I just switch over to the 32bit version until it is available in 64?

TIA, CU L8R,
NTxLS
