I’m stumped. I ran a Rescue scan, using a USB, on a Windows 7 laptop. The scan claimed to find an infected file named “*BOOTE”. Yep, that’s an asteriks, in front of the name. When I selected, “Fix Automatically”, it was not able to fix the file. The same result occurred when I chose “Repair Selected”. The only option remaining is “Delete Selected”, and because of the name of the file, I’m hesitant to delete, what appears to be the “Boot file”. The other strange message, at the end of this scan was in the “Action result” box, Avast stated: “This function is not supported on this system.” Followed by: “Nr(120) (120)”
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Rescue scan? The system is non-bootable?

That is correct, non-bootable.

Did you download the avast rescue disk or something??

32 bit or 64 bit system? (Need info to direct you the correct versions of an offline scanner routine.)
