we are happy to announce new version of AVAST Antivirus (build number 12.2.2276). This is a second release of the NITRO Update.
It’s for these products: Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus, Internet Security and Premier.
In this release, we finished some long-going internal projects (e.g. improvements in the licensing system and registration to the Windows Security Center) and fixed many bugs.
We stopped using the year in product name, as we will be releasing new versions in monthly cycles.
What’s new:
Regular monthly program updates - automatic and silent, configurable via Settings
Fully compatible with Windows 10 Anniversary Update
The new Components menu in program Settings - an easier way to control which components are installed and running
How to install:
Update from existing Avast version via Settings → Update → Update program
Same problem here with Safeprice … not even the courtesy of an opt-out screen like we used to get for Chrome. And there’s not any provision for removing it (that I could find) in the new Settings/Components section. As others have pointed out, the only workaround is through add/remove/change in the control panel.
If marketing has become your top priority, Avast, please listen to your market.
In addition, it took 2 or 3 reboots to restore MBAM, Networx, and the (Lenovo) audio manager to active status in my tooltray.
Since the beta release of 2276 had the note about known issue of UI opening automatically, and this release is also 2276, is this problem fixed in this release?
That rather depends on how you installed this update. If you downloaded and ran the off-line setup installation and you installed it over the top of your existing avast version, then it is on the first screen.
I believe this was previously installed, but you didn’t see anything about it in the past as it would have been part of the old Browser Security (AOS) function. Now you can see it if you do a custom install you can uncheck it.
On top of this, why does the stable has the same version number as the BETA. (both 12.2.2276)… come on Avast, surely you could have made the stable version 12.2.2277.
Version number doesn’t make things magically stable. And it’s known for program revisions to pass version numbers directly. Usually as “RC” (Release Candidate). The last version usually transitions into a final version. Sometime they may change the version number, sometimes they don’t.
Well, it does get confusing having the same version as a BETA and a final version. - Ofcourse that doesn’t make it perfect but surely not that hard to change 1 digit.
Yes, you are right, the real root cause of this bug was discovered quite late, so we decided to fix it via emergency update, which is already prepared an currently being tested. It is going to be released first thing in the morning. The reason why we couldn’t postpone this release is the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Sorry about that.
Sorry to hear about SafePrice…thought Avast Marketing guys had gotten out of those nasty habits. :-[
I have suggestion for Avast icon on system tray.
The symbol/logo needs to be “GREEN” if all OK, “ORANGE” if pending message and “RED” if urgent issue.
Avast also needs to return the mouse over dialog of database #/date…YES, I know it is buried within and if you are streaming all OK.
My suggestions above are for better typical user experience.
Give you some examples…I don’t go to every PC every day…so some of the popups I may never see.
I have all Avast set to manual program update but notify me (I don’t trust Avast anymore on their silent sneak ware pushes)…I assume that means some popup to tell me.
In my case and others you have to open Avast to find out details.
A simple green icon with mouse over re-affirming database ver/date is quick way to communicate.
An orange icon means I should open to see message…example, there is new program update or my database is over week old…good simple alert system.
Red of course I tink you may have with the “X” and all…
…point of above is simple thing like this I think would make most of the millions of users feel more confident without the need to extra work/monitoring.
Regarding SafePrice.
By introducing more components in the setup and new options in the Settings > Components menu, we are trying to make it easier for our users to choose which components they want to use.
For example with SafePrice plugin, user had to look for it in each browser’s settings. In this new version, by deselecting the SafePrice component in setup, plugin is immediately uninstalled from all browsers.
It is unfortunate you had to remove it once again. However, from now on, it should be much easier to control what is installed and what is not.
