Hi,
I have recently installed avast 4.6. I cannot connect to the internet anymore. I dont have any other AV / fire wall installed. I tried setting IE LAN settings as described on avast support pages - didn’t help. When i ping ISP server it works but i cannot browse web or receive email or update virus base.
Any idea what it is?
Does it help if you stop the Web Shield provider?
No it doesn’t. I tried that.
I unistalled the whole package but couldn’t get back the connection. Now i reinstalled modem and again installed avast but it didn’t help. I have Windows 2000 (i think it doesn’t have any firewall built in)
Do you have 2k client or server edition?
It is server edition.
ring your isp up and they should help
do they have a helpline?
por. Zubek,
you posted the problem in the Home/Pro forum. So I assume you have installed one of them.
On a SERVER OS you need to install a SERVER edtition of av software.
you tried disabling all of avast and connecting to the internet?
Ricky,
it doesn’t matter. If he has installed Home or Pro it is not gonna work.
He has a server OS and need to use the Avast Server edition.
ok eddy thanks for the advice
I check again what edition is the OS when i get back home.
But if it is Client edition would you have any ideas?
Well, if the problem persists if you stop the Web Shield, and even when you uninstall avast! completely, it has probably nothing to do with avast!..
It has everything to do with avast because it was working fine untill i installed avast.
Hi por.Zubek,
See what you get using netstat -a from the Command Prompt in DOS, maybe there you can get an indication what is the matter. Do you use a Firewall, and what type? Is your modem working, and your switch. You could re-install your shortcut from within Avast Program Files to your desktop.
greets,
polonus
It has everything to do with avast because it was working fine untill i installed avast. It was working fine till you rebooted is more apropiate. Avast does not break up a connection when installed, unless there is something going badly wrong during the installation. And that happens very sporadic.
Hi Polonus,
Thanks for the reply.
I don’t have any firewall installed.
I will try what you told me when i get home.
