Broardband & auto updates

Hi all, I have just upgraded from a dial-up connection to broardband & wondered if there is anything I have to alter in Avast as far as auto. updates is concerned, a red notice has popped up a couple of times " cannot connect ." I have selected " My computer is permanently connected to the internet " on the Update (connections) page.

Firewall settings?

I think Avast! is trying to connect before the dsl-modem has established a connection. There should be a possibility to edit the ini-file to delay the moment Avast! starts updating.
Anyone any suggestion on how to edit this ?
I’m thinking of increasing the value for raswait but am not sure of it…
Eddy, where are you !

Fast

Although I have broadband and a potentially permanent connection, I’m sure I have mine set to dial-up. In any case, I don’t have any problems with updates, even if there is a delay in connecting.

I have the same thing. Although on dsl I chose to keep Avast! “thinking” I’m on dial-up.
This works, but isn’t the way it should be.
My ISP says it is because they use the DHCP-protocol via USB.
This should cause the delay in connecting and before this happens, Avast! is already trying to connect to the updateserver.
I never really bothered and set Avast! to dial-up, but now Dooley posts this, I woke up.
Let’s see what our own rocket-scientists have to say about this ;D

I believe the recommended solution is to locate the [InetWD] section of Avast4.ini in the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA folder and add the last line shown below. I’ve used 180 (seconds) to cover the occasional scandisk after system crash that happens occasionally. Works fine for me. ;D

[InetWD]
UseRAS=0
AssumeAlwaysConnected=1
AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds=180

Thanks ! :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

Many thanks for the replys everyone, I have just added the extra line gbark suggested so will see if that does the trick, thanks again for the help.

the “dialup” setting in avast means it will wait till a connection is active before updating, doesnt just mean 56k modems! if you logon/out of adsl after pc startup you should use “dialup”…

alerts may still appear if you logout whilst its doing an update check.
