When I started up my laptop it installed everything it needed but then froze so I had to shut it off. When I turned it on again it said that avast! for windows 7 was having a problem and that it needed to be updated. When I updated it though it says “the package is broken.” Help, please!
Repair avast!:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
I’ve tried that. Everytime it says “Repair failed. Please use full update.”
- Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
- OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
- Other security related software installed…??
- Which AV did you use before avast!..??
- Free
- I don’t know any of that
I don’t know anything about my laptop (sadly) I’m not good with them.
- I don’t have any other security software installed. I just uninstalled everything on my laptop and reinstalled what I needed So there’s no junk on my laptop. I just installed avast! last week.
- Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
- Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
- Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
Try this first:
- avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 88.8 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
