Broken package? 8.0.1489

When I started up my laptop it installed everything it needed but then froze so I had to shut it off. When I turned it on again it said that avast! for windows 7 was having a problem and that it needed to be updated. When I updated it though it says “the package is broken.” Help, please!

Repair avast!:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I’ve tried that. Everytime it says “Repair failed. Please use full update.”

  • Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??
  • Free
  • I don’t know any of that :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know anything about my laptop (sadly) I’m not good with them.
  • I don’t have any other security software installed. I just uninstalled everything on my laptop and reinstalled what I needed So there’s no junk on my laptop. I just installed avast! last week.
  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Try this first:

  • avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 88.8 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.
