browser error - please help

good morning,

since installing AVAST! instead of norton AV, i cannot run some scripts in the browsers while web shield is on.

AshWebSV.EXE is got all the possible priorities in ZoneAlarmPro, so that should not be the problem.

I did NOT change any setting in the browsers or the FireWall, just installed the AVAST!

checked it with FireFox AND Explorer. just doesn’t work.

using WinXP.

thanks for any help!

sites like gmail.com doesnt work at all, cant bid anymore with ebay

not sure if that’s cookie problem, or…

???

after hours of searching and trying, found only 1 way to solve it:

on WEB SHIELD >> Customize >> Basic >> Redirected HTTP port - i leave it empty.
then it works.

can somebody tell me if that’s the right solution, if that’s bad for my computer etc?..

tnx!

Clearing the redirected port is exactly the same as turning off the Webshield.

There have been numerous reports in this forum of users exeriencing problems after deciding to move off Norton AV. It is notoriously difficult to remove NAV from a machine so that that it will not interfere with another product like avast.

Take a look at the link for a more thorough removal of NAV in this post:

made everything you wrote, the same problem.
while installing avast!, the program told me about possible conflict with ZoneAlarm.

still - i did not disable any option in AVAST!, wanted to make sure what i should manualle change before doing it…

so - should i change something in ZoneAlarm, or AVAST?

thanks!

turning in ZoneAlarmPro All the privacy controls OFF (Coockie control, Ad Blocking & Mobile cache control) helps.

is that safe enough?
or should i turn it on again, and change something in AVAST?

Turn off privacy controls in ZA as web shield covers you a lot better

Some light reading for you ;D

  • ZONE ALARM - AVAST Web Shield compatibility dialogue - Install/Update Question - YES or NO

If you are using ZoneAlarm Free you should click NO, because privacy features are not present in ZoneAlarm Free this will not turn off web shield transparent mode proxy.
Use a text editor and edit the avast4.ini file, the default installation location is C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini (I would advise you copy avast4.ini before editing it, just in case).
Locate the line containing ZoneAlarmCompatibility= and delete that line. Save the edited avast4.ini file.

If you are using ZoneAlarm Pro and Privacy Control in ZoneAlarm is set to High and if you click YES in avast compatibility dialogue box the transparent mode proxy in web shield will be turned off you have to manually configure browser to access internet. To manually configure your browser watch instructional video

For IE - broadband users: - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for IE
For IE - dialup users - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for IE (Dial-up)
For Firefox users - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for Firefox

Just disable the privacy features of ZA Pro (this will solve Gmail problems) and enable WebShield into avast! (using the port 80 on its settings).
