Browser hijacking

How can I stop my browser from being hi jacked. Last night after several tries I finally could reboot in safe mode. After running cw shredder, avast, spybot, adaware and stinger my speed almost trippled. What freeware can I get to secure my system more. Also I run zone alarm free. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also when I did the scan I noticed files with names like bagel and soforth. Can I remove them and how. I am real scared about removing files so any suggestions are suggested. 8)

The best freeware programes against browser hijacking are IMHO Spybot, SpywareGuard & Spywareblaster. You will find links at my web-page. Press the “earth” button under my avatar…

Also Ad-aware is very good, and so if Spysweeper (only a 30 day thing though).

Also Hijackthis is very good if you no how to use it, if you need help for the log, you could always post back here on the avast forums.

I suggest you start with making sure that your system is clean from any malware. Click on the link inmy signature and pay a visit to the “malware removal” section as well as the “HijackThis” section.

To prevent browser hijacking, use a browser like Opera or Firefox. Only use IE to visit the Windows Update website. If you still want to use IE for browsing, disable the support for ActiveX and set the apropiate security settings for your system. url=http://www.markusjansson.net/exp.html[/url]

O.k. I don’t speak GERMAN!!!
But I will explore your site and programs in detail. I like what I see. I had alot of these installed on my other computer that was stolen. Speaking of stolen is there any way to install some kind of tracking software that would be activated if this computer were to be stolen? ;D

You don’t have to speak German, Eddy’s site is Dutch ;D He has English sections, so you shouldn’t have a problem.

There is a Dutch as well as a English page for the “malware removal” section. It is just a matter of which one you choose :wink:

The HijackThis page is only in English.

But beware, programes like these are often considered to be spyware!
Especially the PAL products, which are often flagged by Ad-aware (but I can’t be sure for this specific program, as I have not tried it).
