Hi, I have been using Avast! Home for some time now, and I am really happy with it too.
Now comes a problem when I try to access the internet. For the past maybe two weeks I have been having a really hard time to get my Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Opera browsers to open their initial page on the internet.
I spent over an hour on the phone with my ISP troubleshooting the problem, and in the end it seems as though there is something about Avast! that is now keeping all three of my browsers from finding that first page.
Almost every time that I close my browser, log off, or restart my PC I now have to stop Avast! for my browser to go to my home page.
Now this strikes me as strange because after doing that, I can restart Avast! and open as many browsers as I want, and they will all open on my home page with no problem, and I have no problem surfing, that is until I close all of the browsers, and open another one.
Then I am once again stuck in cyberspace with the “Page Cannot Be Displayed” thing staring back at me.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and if so what do I need to do to correct it?
It’s is totally not recommended to shut down avast! while you are on the internet… however, I am pretty sure avast! WEB SHIELD provider is the one that gives you those problems. Sometimes I’m having similar problems with for example MSN members profile pages… I have to shut down the WEB SHIELD and everything works great after that.
So, until you find some better solution or guys from Alwil finally give us some better answer, you shouldn’t shut down whole avast!, you should just turn off WEB shield temporary (left click avast! icon in system tray, search for Web Shield provider and click on terminate…)
Wendy … aren’t you now using the lastest beta? ???
If so, it may be that you need to give Web Shield access to the internet through your firewall again. That happened to me with this latest beta update. :-\
Hi N. Tesla, Thanks for the reply. I do not leave Avast! shut down while I am on the internet. I only shut it down just long enough for Internet Explorer to load my home page, and then turn it back on again.
As long as I keep a browser open I have no mare trouble.
Hi CharleyO, Thanks for the reply. hangs head in shame To tell the truth, I have no idea if I’m using the Beta thing or not.
I do know that I have Avast! 4.6 Home, and that it should have all of the latest updates because I have it set for automatic updates.
OK, I do have “Avast! Web Scanner” listed in my firewall; is that the same thing as “Web Shield?”
Hey if I’m Beta testing this thing, how do I go about sending in “Bug” reports to the gurus?
One final thing here, Do you think that it would help to un/re install the program?
