This is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
I have used Avast Premium Security for years, no problems. I powered down and unplugged my Windows 10 pc before a 3-day vacation. After I returned and powered back up both Firefox and Edge would lose Internet connection after 5-10 minutes, even though the wi-fi icon in the tray always said I had Internet access. I couldn’t get it to work so took it to a repair shop. They updated some apps and reset the network. It worked fine at the repair shop.
Brought it home and it had the same symptoms.
Ran through many troubleshooting steps, including Avast Repair button, with no success.
Finally put Avast in Passive mode and connection worked fine. Took it out of Passive and it failed again. Turned off Avast Firewall and browsers would not connect at all. Turned FW back on, and disabled Core shields, same results.
I was about to delete/re-install the program, but decided to try Repair one more time. It worked! Browsers have maintained connection for at least 24 hours.
Reminders - tray icon always said I had wi-fi access, after Reset it would work for 5-10 minutes (except with FW or Shields disabled), AND it worked fine at the repair shop.
It’s working now, but it would be nice to know why, and how to prevent a repeat.
Any thoughts?
I am having the same problem and it is driving me nuts. We you say you have tried ‘repair’ where did you find this option? Thanks Linda
I found it in two places.
Bring up Premium Security–>Menu–>Settings–> Troubleshooting–>Repair App
This didn’t actually fix it, but I don’t know if it was because it invoked a different process or just needed to be done a second time. If it happened again, I would start here.
After a bunch more troubleshooting that I described in my original post, I was planning to delete and re-install the program. I clicked the Start menu, navigated to the list of programs, right-clicked Premium Security, and it gave me three options - Repair, Uninstall, and I forget the third. I figured I’d give Repair one last chance. This time when I clicked Repair it brought up a window that did not come up the first time. I forget what it said, but I continued with the repair, and after it ran my browsers have worked correctly.
Good luck!
Thank you, I am glad to report that it worked!
Thanks
