BSOD after updating IS S/W to latest version (March 15, 2016)

Avast IS has been working great since I installed it on one of my PCs (Windows 7 Ultimate, x64).

This morning I updated IS S/W, as suggested.

Once the update completed, it rebooted the PC.

The BSOD showed a problem with aswNETSEC.sys.

I rebooted the PC in Safe Mode and restored Windows from the last point (right before updating IS), but it did not work (same BSOD).

Tried again with a previous restore point , but it did not work either.

Tried repairing the IS install while in Safe Mode, but I got the same BSOD after rebooting.

Uninstalled IS and Windows came up alright.

Installed Avast Free (2015.10.2.2215 dated 03/23/2015) that I had saved.

This time Windows came up alright, again.

Updated Avast virus definitions and had no problem.

Updated Avast Free to the latest S/W version and the BSOD reappeared.

Uninstalled the latest Avast Free and reinstalled the old version.

Got the minidumps of all six attempts.

Is there anything in the new Avast S/W that causes this mess?

I have not updated Avast IS on my other two PCs (Win 7 Ultimate x32 and Win 10) and I will not until I am sure that I am not going to mess with Windows.

Any clue?

Thank you!

please send me all your minidumps to kurtin@avast.com, thanks!

This is to confirm that I sent you the minidumps today.

Hi there,

It has been two weeks since I sent the requested information and I still have no answer as how to correct the problem with Avast causing BSOD on my computer, while AVG and other AV products do not.

At this point, I decided to continue working with another Internet security suite.

Sorry it did not work out.

Take care

I’m sorry for late respond – I forwarded your minidumps to one of our developer and he has already fixed it in avast (this was caused by improper handling of CPU updating). I’ll ask when the fix will be released. As a workaround, you can disable ‘hardware acceleration’ in avast/troubleshooting and restart the computer. Thanks.
