BSOD and Can't Update

Right after Avast! said it had successfully updated the definitions, I decided to run a full scan. As soon as I hit run the scan, I got a blue screen of death. After I restarted my computer, I got a red alert from Avast! saying it failed to update the definitions. That’s weird since it had just said it updated them. When I try to manually update it, it says “Last encountered error: The package is broken”. Please help.

More details about the BSOD? Number, driver that crashed. You can find this in the Windows Events at the time of the crash.
Please, zip and upload the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming

Any other security program update or Windows update today?

How do I upload it to the ftp site? The file is also 395MB uncompressed; should it be that large?

Also, no other updates I don’t think, other than earlier definitions.

I also don’t recall any specific driver in the BSOD, but there were several error codes. Avast! still can’t update either.

Zip the file.
You can upload using Windows Explorer and the ftp site address typed there.
Or you can use FileZilla freeware.

I’m still not really sure. Do I attach it in an email with the ftp site as the recipient?

Of course not…
Copy it as a file from one folder to another.
The “another” folder here is ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming

Almost got it work, but I got an error message.

Well… Hope they could give an answer to this…
Are you logged as an administrator?

I am logged on as administrator. I’m going to try running to run another full scan to see if it crashes again.

Update: Scan is going well. It has also been updating fine. Not sure what caused that crash and update problems the other day.

Gremlins ;D

Yeah. I think I got a BSOD right after I installed Avast! but I didn’t think too much of it.
