Few months ago I reinstalled OS on my laptop and installed Avast and had a BSOD with unmountable boot volume, tried to fix it, got nowhere, moved houses and forgot about it. Now I dusted of the old laptop and having a second attempt to fix it, when trying to get into a Safe mode it get’s stuck on aswrvrt.sys and shows BSOD, running Windows Repair just bring up the Winows background with working cursor and that’s it. Not sure what to do next.
I got Rufus onto a USB stick and set the laptop to boot from external device, whacked the usb in and it’s not getting picked up, I get an option to launch Windows Repair or start normally and in both cases it doesn’t work
Sorry for a later reply, was snowed in with work, got a blank CD and when I open Rufus I got all options blank… am I missing something? where can I get the file image?
Ok so I got Rufus but cannot get a Windows iso file, Microsoft doesn’t want to accept the laptop’s licence key and the FRST tool doesn’t want to run in DOS mode, what should I do next?
cheers, got it mounted onto a usb via Rufus, so far it booted up and stays on the blue/purpleish screen for the past 5 minutes… doubt it’s normal, although the HDD light keeps on flashing
should’ve mentioned it before, but when I was trying to boot in safe mode before, it was getting stuck on the following file: aswrvrt.sys which then caused another restart
The WIndows 7 link doesn’t work, when entering my laptops licence key it refuses to progress and informs about contacting the laptops manufacturer to obtain the recovery disk
That is strange as it should just overwrite whatever is on the disk with a image created from that disk unless it is not a true image but just Windows repair.
Well, there is always the option to get a Windows cd/dvd and perform a clean install.
Found my student version of Windows 7 Ultimate version CD, menu appears and after clicking at Install now then it get’s to Setup is preparing and stays there with no action from HDD or the CD drive…
