BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER after last MS update

Hi

After last update from MS, one of my two XP systems started crashing with BAD_POOL_HEADER (STOP …19). Did a number of things, including a system restore and starting with a number of services disabled. But the system did not return to normal operation until I uninstalled Avast.

For me, the urgent issue is resolved, but I can no longer run Avast on this machine. My other XP system is also updated, and runs Avast with no problems (both systems do automatic updates of both Windows and Avast, and should be on identical revision levels).

Here’s a summary from the problematic system (can provide more details on request).
