BSOD caused by aswSP.SYS

Hello. I have installed Avast Free 5.0.677.

After a shutdown of PC i have found a minidump file.

Analyzed with WinDbg, the response is “Probably caused by: aswSP.SYS”.

The OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.

At the moment no reply of BSOD has happened.

I have uploded the minidump (named: Mini121510-01.dmp) at ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming/

Thank for any help and sorry for my (very) bad english.

Try sending it here:

Please, zip and upload the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file to this anonymous ftp server and name it uniquely: ftp.avast.com/incoming. Avast will analyze it and respond back to you in this thread or to your email. Let us know if you get a response back or not. Thank you.

I zipped and uploaded the file minidump at the ftp server.

In the ZIP file i inserted a link to this thread.

Please let us know what feedback they give you in resolving the problem and post it here in this thread. Thank you.

I have the same problem.

Do not update the program if you have 4.8.1169. If you made the update program will start BSOD problems. You can still do the update signatures VPS.

So I suggest to set to “manual” update program and “automatic” if you want.

Avast on startup that crashes the PC too intermittently.

If the company invalid version 4.8.1169 it will end the use of anti-virus Avast if the company not solve the problem.

Note : sorry, do not usually do my bilingual messages.

Thanks

Merci!

  1. No, you don’t… ::slight_smile:
  2. That’s crap…!! Nobody uses this version anymore… (hopefully)
    asyn

Maybe!

But Avast with blue screen in the new version is not better.

???

Version is better than nothing 4.8.1169.
Or go to other anti-virus.

Right. I installed directly the version 5.0.677 and the BSOD is a isolated event up till now.

No news from Avast staff for now.

Same problem with 5.0.677

I sent a request for assistance.
I await a response.

@mister pink, I found your minidump, but the crash was caused by memory fault (our aswSP.sys freed memory block and it failed in OS kernel). It’s not direct driver’s fault, usually HW or a system driver corrupted memory blocks. If you get other BSOD, please upload minidump and I’ll look at it again.

@dan4, we need to see minidump to find out more about your BSOD. The latest v4.8 is quite stable and we don’t support it anymore, please install 5.0/5.1 version and if you got into some troubles, please let us know and we’ll fix it.

OK! I will post again here eventual news.

Thank you for help.
