Oh man Essexboy is on my case!

Unfortunately I dont remember any details of BSOD. I’ve been avoiding lanching Dark Souls or any other graphics card intensive programs until instructed, but I could see if it causes another crash and take a pic of the screen. Here’s the FRST fixlog

There was one weird service launching at start which may have been responsible

Loaded up Dark Souls 2 and Far Cry 4, both of which didn’t trigger a BSOD. GTA V is unlocked tomorrow, which will probably be the most intensive thing i’ve tried to run. If anything’s gonna BSOD, it would be that. The reboot after FRST seemed to take longer than usual, but performance seems good so far. Anything else I should look for? I’ll load up Dark Souls again in the meantime and will report back if it crashes.

As a side note, I just noticed the “Solve PC Issues” Flag in the bottom of my screen. It says “Solve a problem with AMD - Display Adapter - ATI Radeon Graphics Cards”
When I click on it, the Action Center window says "This solution could not be downloaded. Most likely casues: Your computer was unable to download the solution at this time. Check to make sure your computer is connected to the Internet, and then try to download the solution again later.

I’m pretty sure I’m connected to the internet, considering the posting to the internet and whatnot. The notice wont go away though.

Every time I click “Show me the solution” it takes me to a new window, where it attempts to load the solution, then gives me the message it cant find it, either from non-existence or a lack of internet. I know I’m connected. Maybe something’s preventing action center from reaching whatever it needs to?

I dno’t know. Battlefield 4 @ 1080p on Ultra is pretty intensive. I had my card screaming for mercy doing that lol. No crashes though!

Dark Souls just crashed. I had to end task. Two graphical glitches have occurred. The text in the tabs on my end task menu are gone, and the ctrl+alt+del menu has this glitch if i hover over buttons.
Im gonna reload Dark Souls. It’ll probably BSOD. Will report back. Also, the text in my right click menu disappears when i hover over it. Wtf…

Can you confirm you have a file @ (C:\ATI\atikmpag.sy_)? If so, report back. I might have an idea. Need to run through it with Essex before he gives you instructions.

Hmmm… my ATI folders are under C:\ProgramFiles\ATI and also C:\ProgramFiles\ATI Technologies

Neither has atimpag. ATI contains the folder CIM, which contains Reports, which contains a bunch of XML reports. ATI Technologies contains ATI.ACE, which contains Fuel, which contains Profiles, which contains a folder named 8C4AF348173117D3DC7B3AC5934F27EF, which is empty…

I’m off to work. I can answer questions from my phone but won’t be able to do anything at the desktop for roughly 11 hours.

I’m assuming this is already done with FRST, but to ensure;

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Under “Folder Options” hit Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Ensure that the Radiobutton "Show Hidden Files; Folders & Drives is checked.
Ensure that "Hide Extensions for Known File Types is UN-checked.
Ensure that "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) is UN-Checked.

Note; for the last, you will be prompted confirming your decision. Hit Yes. Now, recheck the C:\ for any Greyed (Ghosted) folders named ATI.

Rad, all my files were hidden lol.

I couldn’t find C:\ATI so I just did a blanket search for atikmpag and this is what i found (attached jpeg)

Also, after last night’s BSOD a new notice was available in the action center that directed me to this page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2665946/

I havn’t done any of their recommendations yet, until one of you guys can take a look at it first

At the very least don’t attempt the first one. Seeing as you have a spare backup file, I will see if I can get Essex to give you instructions to replace it safely.

Run the fixit on the MS page as that will ease the problem somewhat

My next suggestion would be to download the driver package for your card and then using control panel > programs and features … As well as device manager uninstall the driver package currently installed

Reboot and then install the downloaded version

Ran the fix, uninstalled the card from device manager, uninstalling my card stuff with programs and features, than gonna reboot and reinstall. windows dont like this. it keeps trying to update as im uninstalling components
