BSOD from aswsp.sys on XP and weird older aswsp.sys.1416508440109 file

Got a BSOD today on my XP machine, a Dell Optiplex 755 with 4GB RAM and a 500GB Momentus XT hybrid HD-SSD. The screen said it was caused by aswsp.sys, which is Avast’s self-protection file. That file is version 12.2.3154.8 last modified Sept 22, 2016, with file size 424 KB. My Avast is version 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.19).

But … in the same folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers, I have an older file called aswsp.sys.1416508440109. Last modified 11-9-2014 with file size 413 KB. What is that?

Thoughts? Thanks.
