BSOD from aswSP.sys

Hi, since the upgrade from version 6.0.1091 to 6.0.1125 I have always a BSOD at each out of hibernation. And the Windows Security Center no longer detected that Avast is activated.

Welcome to the forum.

You may want to try cleaning your machine with something like CCleaner, a free system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. There is a Slim version available as well at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds – 4th option down. It removes unused files (cache, temporary Internet files, etc.) from your system, allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.

Then reboot your machine.

If this does not fix the problem, then try an Avast Repair:

If this does not fix your problem, then you may need to provide us more information about your machine:

  1. What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
  2. What version of Avast did you install?
  3. What product of Avast did you install? Free, Pro, AIS?
  4. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:
  • Antivirus (AV)
  • Firewall (FW)
  • Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs
  • Other security software
  • If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?

And you may need to provide us with a mini-dump while you are having the problem:
Here is additional information on how to invoke a memory dump file: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=71.

Please, zip and upload the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file to this anonymous ftp server and name it uniquely giving us the name of the file in this thread: ftp.avast.com/incoming. Avast will analyze it and respond back to you in this thread.

If you are having difficulty with dump file:

  • Using Internet Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don’t have read access to this folder, so you won’t be able to see it once uploaded.
    Or

  • Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this:
    Code: explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.

Let us know what fixes your problem and if you have any questions. Thank you.

Hi, Avast Repair solved all my problems, thanks for your help.

Im curious to know why you recommend running CCleaner to someone who is struggling with BSOD?
I see no reason why this program would do anything to fix blue screens of death

I, too, have been having the same issue since Avast upgraded versions a few months ago. IT may also have coincided with the April release of patches from Microsoft.

As a computer tech, I have tried all sorts of different things. I thought at first that it was because there was a problem with the “new” used machine I got - have reimaged the machine several times, updated all drivers, rolled back some drivers, disabled devices, ran chkdsk, sfc, and so forth. I have even updated my BIOS and the microcode. Windbg tells me that all of this is possibly tied to aswSP.sys.

The machine will BSOD when a couple of IE pages are open at the same time and one or more of them is trying to load stuff. The only thing that seems to prevent the issue is going into the BIOS and disabling the multicore processor.
