I’ve been using Avast for… uh, something like 3 years now. But since I bought myself a personal computer, I didn’t scanned my computer once, because I know my sister don’t download everything Limewire gives her…
so… I tried to scan my whole computer to be sure I didn’t accidentally got a virus. I tried 3 times. Near 30 or 40%, I get a blue screen of death. Everytime.
So I cannot scan my computer. And it scares me a little.
I use Avast 5 Free Edition on Vista. The 4th version didn’t make Windows crash.
I tried Microsoft Security Essentials to be sure, and it said my computer is clean. But I barely trust it…
So what am I supposed to do?
By the way, what should I do to report translation issues?
If you are on a 32bit system, run a boot time scan with avast.
You can also check your machine with free Mbam. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
asyn
Please, zip and upload the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming
Please, go to folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
You can disable Automatic Restart:
System Properties > Advanced > [Startup and Recovery]Settings
Remove the checkmark from “Automatically Restart” in the System Failure section.
Then post here more info about the BSOD.
Ah, indeed, I hadn’t thought about the filename, thanks.
I’m uploading it right now on ftp.avast.com/incoming - I’ve named it theriault-avast5memory.zip. I also used the boot time scan and it said I don’t have any virus.
But I still don’t get the “send the latest .mdmp file for analysis” thing. Do I have to upload it as I did with memory.zip?
Well, I’m not an expert on kernel dumps - but since the error (stored inside of the dump) says “There was error with disk hardware”, and since you say it happens at approximatelly the same place during the scan, I’d guess it really might be a problem with your hard drive (crashing the computer when trying to read a particular sector).
If you found any mistakes in a translation, you can report then here.
