BSoD while using Windows Remote desktop

Hello, thanks for the great product. I noticed an issue, so here is the report.

[Symptom]
Host computer get BSoD while opening client drives via Windows Remote Desktop

[Environment]

  • Host: Windows XP Pro SP3 + avast! Free v8
  • Client: Windows XP Pro SP3

[Reproduce Steps]

  1. Connect from client to host via RDP, with “Local Resource” → “Drives” enabled
  2. Open host “My Computer” and access client’s drive
  3. Host computer get BSoD

[Other]
avast!7 does not have this issue.
I got this on two XP machines with avast! 8.

I will appreciate your help with this situation.

Please check for the corresponding minidump files (in C:\Windows\Minidump) and upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
(and post the filenames here).
Thanks.

@kataoka, this is a known bug in RDP on Windows XP. It does not properly handle some queries from avast drivers. This problem was fixed in Vista. I can send you patched driver, or you can disable “Drives” option, or avast file-system shield on client’s side.

I understood the phenomenon.
I want a patched driver, please send me.

Thank you for your reply.

q: will the BSOD trigger also when the XP are RD controlled from Vista / Seven ? or does the issue affect only host (controlling system) ?

I tried WindowsXP only.
It seems that it reappears by two or more XP machines.
not use Vista / Seven .
