BSODs After 2014.9.0.2011 Update - XP Pro SP3 - Disabling the File Shield Helps

I have also been getting BSODs after installing avast! 2014.9.0.2011. I am running XP Pro SP3. Disabling the avast! file shield seems to have stopped the BSODs for me.

I have been using avast! for years and have had very few problems, and never a BSOD problem before this one. I get a BSOD when I try to run certain programs, but only when I am logged in as administrator. I do not get any BSODs when I run the same programs in a limited account. If I start Firefox when logged in as administrator, I get a BSOD as soon as the browser window comes up. I also get a BSOD after running DriveImage XML - DriveImage gets almost all the way through the backup but then throws a BSOD just after it starts writing the file names to the XML file. I didn’t try running too many other programs, but the Firefox and DriveImage BSODs were very repeatable.

Anyway, I seem to have isolated the problem to the avast! file system shield. If I disable the file shield then I do not get any BSODs. The output from BlueScreenView is below for one of the mini dump files. BlueScreenView also indicates that the drivers in the crash stack were: aswMonFlt.sys, aswSnx.sys, fltmgr.sys, and ntoskrnl.exe.

Use the Avast uninstall tool. Then download and install version 8. Or if you do not want to use version 8 of Avast then try another AV program.

Ram I believe you have been warned several times about posting unhelpful advice, if you have nothing but these stupid replies to uninstall everything then don’t bother posting as your helping no one with your simplistic replies.

At least the OP is helping by posting information that avast can use to help solve these issues and to put it bluntly you are just interfering in the process.

Could you please upload a dump to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming ?
Thanks.

I just uploaded two dump files (Mini010414-01.dmp and Mini010514-02.dmp) to the ftp site - they are the first and last ones I got. The later one should correspond to what I posted above. Hope it helps.

Im still on …2008 version, but was wondering if disabling the Deepscreen, Hardened mode, Reputation Services etc, would help. ie. just using the three shields as a pure anti-virus.

Ive always used it as a pure antivirus, with Online Armor. Even with mutual exclusions, Ive always found mixing HIPS and behaviour/sandbox analysis of any kind between two products causes pauses and BSODs.
