Buffer Overflow caused by Avast

Hello, since the new Avast updates some days ago I encountered some weird errors like disappearing icons and fonts if these erros take place I am unable to open new programs or even windows explorer. If I want to close Avast when that happens via windows task manager it tells me that it can’t shut down such a critical process.

After some research I found out that these issues are caused a program with a buffer overflow. Today I just lost a document because of that (it simply vanished from the order).
I tried to recover it with Recua but it is in a critical condition and useless now.
The comment stated that it was overwritte by file path\Avast\journal\journal069E1DF

First I thought that this could be the result from a corrupt Avast update so I first removed Avast completely and reinstalled it from a new exe…yesterday.
I thought this would solve the problems, obviously they are still there.

My OS is XP and I have the free version of Avast. It looks like I’m the first encountering that problem with Avast, however same problems occured by an Avira update some years ago too.

I hope somebody more experienced can help me with that matter, making it stop.
if not, I want to report this as a bug at least.

Edit: ok looks like I am not the only one having problems with XP SP3… I’ll downgrade for now and try my best with a fixed version

Sounds very much like this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100359.0

Please use v7.0.1456 instead - it was released just a few hours ago, and fixes the issue.

Cheers
